Prerequisites to the Accounting Certificate consist of 21 hours: MAT 101 or 110 (MAT 202), ACC 215-216 with a grade of C or better within the last seven years or a proficiency exam, ECO 407 (ECO 205 or 206), BUS 305 (BBA 395), BUS 363, and BUS 414.
Students who have earned a BBA from Belhaven University will already have taken all of the prerequisites. Students who have earned a BBA or equivalent from another accredited college or university will need to consult with an advisor in the School of Business to determine if they lack any prerequisites. Students can transfer up to nine hours in accounting courses with permission of the chair of Accountancy Studies.
This program will prepare students for many accounting jobs, but not for public accountancy and the CPA Exam. Students in the Certificate Program who plan to take the CPA Exam should enroll in the Certificate’s Public Accountancy Concentration.
Students who have already taken one of the required accounting classes will be required to select a substitute from an upper division business or accounting elective course.
