TEL 416 - Exploring Language and Culture (3 )

Candidates will be exposed to the basic concepts of sociolinguistics and understand the nature and value of world English and variations in dialect. Candidates will experience the rang of social and academic language functions required for EL proficiency. Candidates can expect to gain exposure to research-based models for second-language learning and acquisition (e.g., cognitive, behaviorist, constructivist). Candidates will look at the impact of a learner’s first language on second-language production and the implications of extrinsic and intrinsic motivation in the second-language learning process.
