Candidates will be introduced the basic theoretical frameworks for describing the world’s languages: phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, lexicography, pragmatics, and discourse analysis. Teacher candidates will be able to use the International Phonetic Alphabet to describe English and other languages. Teacher candidates will demonstrate ability to analyze languages syntactically, morphologically, and lexically. Teacher candidates will demonstrate a knowledge of the vocabulary of linguistics. Teacher candidates will show understanding of the unity and diversity of languages across the globe.
