REA 622 - Teaching Reading Skills & Comprehension (3 )

GR

Candidates in this course investigate the process of selection and utilization of instructional materials, coupled with research-based methods and strategies for teaching reading in school settings. Emphasis is placed on fostering oral language development and implementing early systematic reading and writing instruction, with the focus moving toward enhancing vocabulary acquisition, fluency, and comprehension skills. Scaffolding of the reading process, which yields structured support for students, is investigated so the educator can navigate students toward increasingly complex texts and literacy tasks.
