Growth of the American Nation: 1860-1924 This course is the third in a four-course survey of American history. This course begins with the Civil War. The course concludes in the Roaring Twenties-after World War I-when the United States became politically isolationist but economically even more globalist. Additional topics covered include Reconstruction, the settling of the trans-Mississippi West, the tensions between big business and workers during the Gilded Age and Progressive Eras, the ongoing challenges faced by African-Americans in the Jim Crow era, and World War I.
