EDU 751 - Historical & Philosophical Perspectives Educational Practices (3 ) GR
This course is a review of the history, philosophy, and theoretical perspectives on learning, and teaching including classical education, behaviorism, cognitive, constructivist, sociocultural, social cognitive, theories and perspectives. The study will include the educational theorist and leaders promoting, supporting, and identified with the various perspectives. Candidates will examine and identify the strengths and limitations of these perspectives in relation to understanding issues within today’s education environment. During this course, candidates will explore the historical complexity of American education, as well as consider various historical issues and the ways these historical events have determined current educational policy and practice. Critical analysis of major schools of thought and their connection to social developments and their history and impact they have had will be addressed.
